Step 4: Artworks

Patricia Piccinini: Affinity, Peaceful, Embrace

Step 2C: Something Beautiful

Aussie Motherhood.
This photograph was taken on a typical sunday afternoon at Coogee Beach.
As the mother laboriously carries the kid on her back, I think the joy that the back-ride brings to the child's face is really beautiful - something one could look at, relate to and savour.

Step 2B: A great piece of architecture

Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates - completed and opened for public in January 2010.

I consider Burj Khalifa a 'great piece of architecture' not only because it is currently the tallest building in the world, but because of the volatile, uncertain and yet engaging history behind it that it very gracefully withholds. The construction and completion of Burj Khalifa saw many difficulties and start-stopped more than once due to different reasons including finances, mechanical/structural glitches, labor strikes and one serious economic recession.
I am quite impressed with the Burj Khalifa story, the very fact that it did finally get built on time and stands majestically tall today. I see Burj Khalifa as a lesson in determination, perseverance and the will to make dreams come true.

Makkhee : Ready to Fly

Makkhee is an Urdu word for a housefly. This photograph was taken during/after a magnificient roadside breakfast in Karachi, Pakistan. It dates back to April 2009, right before I flew to Australia to start my undergraduate degree in architecture.

What I like about the photography is the way the Makkhee is solidly grounded, and has every ounce of courage mustered, ready to fly.
